It is a quirky name for a restaurant, but you know exactly what you are getting when you order here. Dumplings are a fine and filling snack, and while the pronunciation of the dishes may flummox you, the taste more than makes up for it.

You’ll also enjoy the fact there is a bar downstairs, which means you can easily spend a few hours in My Neighbours The Dumplings. Just watch how you introduce the restaurant to the people who live either side of you; they may not initially see the funny side!

P Franco

There are plenty of laid-back and relaxed eateries in Hackney, which is befitting of the atmosphere in the local area. However, there will always be a reason to take things up a notch, and P Franco is an ideal destination for a special night.

This is a French wine bar that is ideal for a romantic evening. It is an intimate place, the chefs tend to change every few months, so there is always something new to try, and it has a fantastic wine section. You may not drink here every week, or even every month, but for a brilliant night, this is a desirable option.

Market Cafe

The name alone tells you what to expect, and if you all need in life is a simple place where you can get a breakfast or brunch that makes your weekend, this is the place to visit. It is the ideal start to the day or even the perfect culmination to a brilliant night out, and you can feel confident that the atmosphere is going to be laid back and friendly.

8 Draughts

Another excellent laidback option in Hackney is 8 Draughts, and while you might think the name refers to draught beer, you should prepare yourself for a stunning array of board games. At the last count, there were 600 games to choose from, so you may need your first drink while you ponder what to play.

The food on offer is more snack-based as opposed to a full-on meal, but it is a smashing way to spend quality time out of the house, and you won’t go hungry!
