There are just a few short weeks until the biggest outdoor fitness festival in the UK gets underway, with Hackney Moves taking place this year between May 15th and 17th.
Numerous events are taking place over the course of the three days and, depending on fitness levels and motivation, you could find yourself keeping very active indeed.
There’s the Hackney Half on the 17th, which will take you on a tour of the local area, running through Dalston, Haggerston and Hackney Wick (home to some incredible street art, so make sure you keep your eyes well peeled as you go).
By all means, wear headphones to help you get around the 13.1-mile route, but you may want to keep your ears free since live entertainment and DJs will be very much in evidence on the day, keeping you motivated to put one foot in front of the other until the finish line is in sight.
And don’t despair if half a marathon seems a little too difficult for you at the moment – there’s also the Hackney 5k taking place on the 16th, a free event that’s open for everyone over the age of 13.
All finishers will receive a medal, Nike Dri-Fit technical t-shirt and their official race time. The organisers are expecting an amazing 10,000 runners on the day – so you’ll be in excellent company indeed.
Supporters and people who simply don’t fancy running can spend their time at Market on the Marshes while waiting for friends and family to finish their races. Expect to see amazing local food vendors, as well as lots of music to keep you well entertained – as well as fitness performers!
If you are running and want to do it for charity, the lead partner for the Hackney Half is Cancer Research UK. By signing up, you’re agreeing to a fundraising target of £300 – and the charity has helpfully put together lots of training plans and advice so you can hit your goals and help raise lots of cash for a good cause.
And don’t forget that this is the perfect opportunity to really get a feel for Hackney and see what it might be like to live there – ideal for anyone currently house hunting in the local area. You’ll get to see all sorts of local landmarks as you run from start to finish and it’s sure to help you make up your mind as to whether this is the London borough for you.
